What Joe Biden's 'Made in America' tax plan is and who supports it

One of the few pieces of the Biden tax plan that could enough get bipartisan support to pass is his "Made in America" plan. It would give companies a 10% tax credit on investments that preserve or create U.S. jobs, while also taxing profits on overseas subsidiaries and global book income. CNBC's Robert Frank reports on the praise and the criticism the plan is being met with. For access to live and exclusive video from CNBC subscribe to CNBC PRO: cnb.cx/2NGeIvi

Joe Biden's Pick for Top Economic Adviser, Neera Tanden, Endorsed Bill Creating a National Soda Tax...they want the poor to eat bread and water......while taxing the cheapest drink possible for poor to buy -soda.....saying its because of the sugar content ...when diet soda has no sugar in it........and most can not drink milk due to allergies......and acidy fruit are terrible for most peoples digestion/health...Generally, citrus fruits have a low pH, meaning they are acidic. Citrus and other acidic foods may contribute to symptoms in those with upper gastrointestinal issues like an ulcer or reflux. It's important to remember that fruit juices are acidic, too. Because of this, you should use a straw when drinking fruit juices.Jul 7, 2020

I mean that won’t force anyone to shift production, because economics is hardly the motivating factor for businesses in 2021 and will probably just end up making things more expensive (things that you may not have even thought of), driving down consumption and quality of life. But, sure, I’ll take it anyday, because I want to manufacture in the USA anyways.

youd be very wrong. the major players are sitting on tens of billions in cash reserves. they just need a push to come back. this will also help small business that can easily switch inventory and beat out the larger players still importing

    • Charlie Patton

      Charlie Patton

      5 天 前

Well, wouldn’t production shift when less people can afford random outfits for their cats on Amazon because they are paying more of the products overall? But it seems to me that item prices will go up (or Membership fees) regardless. They do jobs overseas to get out of paying for higher wages, vacation, safe working conditions, etc. Having to pay American employees “extra” won’t come out of corporates salary, so cue heavy automation or price rise.

Pro Big Corp people always say any amount of tax increase is "Not good for jobs." We're sick of hearing it. We already learned from Trump's tax cuts that jobs have nothing to do with taxes. It's about demand. Since these companies go straight to overseas labor when demand dictates a need for more work, I can't see Biden's plan doing anything but help US workers. To what degree may be arguable since automations is growing.

You brought the housing collapse up... I can tell you from my banking experience when I worked for a European Bank, foreign bank organizations were required to have more liquidity and taxed differently. So the bank set up an IHC..intermediate holding company to circumnavigate those costs. The ihc required a whole bunch of new people. Not to mention higher taxes can push a business out if a state or the country and those jobs are lost...or they just offshore it

    • Ryan RJ

      Ryan RJ

      5 天 前

@TheM0joDoj0 to add, when I'm doing cost analysis and I see reduction in tax its not like I go to the groups I cover and go yoo hire more people our taxes went down. Its more like okay I see this quarter we have costs x amount less than last year and our profit in these areas is hirer...some of which is tax driven but of course not all of it. But that extra money opens up budget to do another project and we hire new people and contractors to work on those projects.

    • Ryan RJ

      Ryan RJ

      5 天 前

@TheM0joDoj0 I agree with most that you have said, but just because there is no acceleration doesn't mean it doesn't have an impact. There are a MYRIAD of factors that all work simultaneously to impact employment. Saying that tax cuts have 0 impact whatsoever on ability for businesses to hire more or expand which then leads to more hirings is rather naive. Am I saying its correlation is 1? Hell no, I aint no sith dealing in absolutes here. But it is statistically significant enough to say without a reasonable doubt that tax cuts can and have led to an increase in hirings.

    • TheM0joDoj0

      TheM0joDoj0

@Ryan RJ The unemployment rate was already steadily moving down. A lot of it from the standards and regulations set after the housing crash. After the implementation of the tax cuts in 2017, 2018 saw no acceleration in falling unemployment rate. Obama set the economic oven in 2011-12 and all Trump had to do was not let the heat out and that Turkey was destined keep cooking. Luckily Trump has no idea how to operate an oven. Then COVID showed up and blew the Oven door off and Trump definitely didn't know how to get that door back on.

Just some input for people here, lots of these big companies producing things overseas can out produce most of these small towns. Depending on exactly what companies put what where, lots of small businesses will be snuffed out simply b/c they cant keep up, while others will thrive b/c they can capitalize on the situation. It's very circumstantial and none of us here are experts so debating it here is literally pointless. Appreciate the maturity so far.
