General motors I think you are going to be a big part of the future. Go for the gusto get your cars out their in the net and please list thier price. You have to have a safe affordable car safety in small cars is a big plus. Most of American can't afford a change over with out affordability. Tesla's is so dam high and thier reputation sucks. If I was you I would come out and tell America you don't support the republican party and I would do that soon. You can become a big winner.

Its the arrogance of senior leadership and club culture at C-suite that led again and gain failure of large companies. There is no US auto industry future where GM, FORD and Chrysler all enjoy the same leadership as they did in last decades

At the time of bailout, they promised energy efficiency and green vehicle and also took loans for EV. Yet they did minimum in form of Chevy and squandered money on other things. GM has 0 creditability with its intention to make change. It is forced now and it is not in its DNA to disrupt and Innovate

Investors gave her a pass on nikola. Many many people saw the scam. Gm with their due diligence did not. Was GM incompetent or just wanted to go along with it hoping no one would expose Nickola. Nikola claimed they had breakthrough tech on battery and hydrogen. Then they were going to abandon their to use GM. Huge red flags.
carlos parra
11 天 前
GM had nothing to lose and much gain from that. If Nikola was for real they will have access to that Hydrogen battery but if not well, at lest they got the press. Absolutely nothing to lose.

Are you guys pre-designed to ask stupid questions? The 44 second mark, "did you wait to long to have this slew of vehicles?" I want to say the question is ridiculous but its actually stupid. Name another company, obviously other than Tesla that has a "Slew of vehicles" coming out"? It's more like a trickle in most cases. Other than a really good crystal ball, nobody really could have predicted the success of Electric cars and Tesla guiding it's progress. It's a huge under taking considering the infrastructure involved. Mercedes were partners with Tesla briefly and then they left, Toyota was partners with Tesla and they left. Which one of those two were stupid? neither. The challenges was huge and very much looked far into the future. Tesla bet big and delivered big. No one saw this coming this fast. Parts manufacturers who are also technology partners needed to get up to speed, ICE manufactures had to get up to speed. None of this is magic, all of this takes time. I'm sure for the millions of Arm Chair Engineers and most 6 & 7 figure Analyst this is a walk in the park but for real people the challenge is massive. Do you guys have a research team or does Mr LeBeau just shoot off his mouth? wow . Ill sit back and wait for the silly comments but before you type, know this: A new car design take on average 4 years and cost upwards of 20 billion - Engineer, design, test, Manufacturing plant , stamping press, tooling, assembly line, testing, testing , testing, marketing, traing etc....A new infrastructure to charge the vehicle cost $billions

If GM wants to have an honest shot at being number 2 or 3 in the EV space they need to start replacing management as many of them are the old guard that just don't get EV's or the technology stack from a vertical perspective. They need new young leaders who not only understand EV's but don't have the weight of GM's legacy slowing and stopping them from moving forward. Based on what I've seen from the CEO of GM I'm not sure she is the right person to take them to the next level with EV's... They are way to late, but they have a chance if they shake up their house....

To GM's credit, the new Corvette is the best supercar, the Camaro is the best muscle/sports car/coupe, the large SUVs (Suburban, Denali, etc.) are second to none, the trucks are excellent, the new Hummers are awesome, and the LT/LS V-8 engines are the best overall powerplants. GM has stumbled but they're still a viable force. Japanese cars are butt-ugly and not anything like they used to be. German cars have always been over-rated. Korean cars are nice but somehow fall short. So give GM a chance.
R S
11 天 前
Korean cars don’t fall short. They are winning in most areas around the world. Consumers just don’t trust GM. Corvettes are overrated and still a small segment of total sales. Big vehicles are getting increased competition. I don’t see a future for GM

There is no confident in her voice! In the beginning she says they are disrupting delivery and saw opportunity and later she said we are looking for right opportunities!! The technology GM has for past few years hasn’t come to fruition while Tesla built he whole damn factory in 12 months with first car built and delivered!! I am not sure how any legacy car makers can or will ever survive!! I owned 3 GM cars in my life 20+ years ago and switched Japanese car and never looked back. And BTW, they are the one who killed the EV car!!

gm may have experience and capacity, but barriers to entry are getting lower with innovations in design and manufacturing. arcimoto, for example, would have been impossible at scale a few years ago. the cybertrucks low poly design, making the vehicle cheaper and easier to make, yet more capable and durable at the same time. neither of these comply to traditional auto industry aesthetics and that saves a ton of overhead.

A decent chunk of any future profits for GM will indefinitely siphon out to pay for legacy costs (retirement and healthcare plans), the need to convert ICE infrastructure to EV, cost of reducing unnecessary workforce since EVs need less workers to build, the monstrous cost of ramping up software capabilities (imagine John Deere having to become a software company overnight), and the principal and interest on hundreds of billions in current debt...all while trying to ramp up EV sales without gouging its own ICE sales during a paradigm shift. The GM management knows that the best route is to split off EVs as a subsidiary that won’t be burdened with legacy costs...but they can’t due to labor politics. GM is a dead company walking...

I think GM can do really good things in the future. They already have experience building great cars, but if hire enough Software Engineers to work on the Software side and getting a decent long range battery. They can compete head to head with Tesla 5-7 years from now.
Money Host - Let's Talk Investing
12 天 前
@robin taylor It will take GM alot maybe that 10-15 years you mentioned to get close to Tesla but they should be able to push out couple of EV's over next few years and make incremental updates to at least play in the EV space. But yes, I have my money on Tesla as well, I started a small $4,000 position with Tesla back in 2017.
robin taylor
12 天 前
@Money Host - Let's Talk Investing well I'm glad they are making a move, my money will stay with Tesla for at least 10 - 15 years. I will never see gm or any other car manufacturer as competition, but more like another choice to end ice vehicles.
Money Host - Let's Talk Investing
12 天 前
@robin taylor No, I definitely don't think Tesla will sit idle and do nothing. I really believe Tesla is an innovative company, they will continue to move on to continue to improve battery life, autonomous driving, and even potentially even Tesla Robo Taxi. GM is way behind but they will be playing catch up and able to invest quiet a bit to be able to compete with Tesla. That's why I mentioned in 5-7 years.
robin taylor
